When I finished school back in the heady days of 1997, I rather naîvely went straight into Uni. Now that was ten years ago, & I’m nearly 30 and I’m thinking about going back.

Some history. I studied most of a Bachelor of Psychology at UniSA for three years, bouncing between sub-majors (sociology, com sci & media studies) but never really settling into a proper direction.

I found contract work as a web developer to get me through the usual financial strain of study, and eventually contract work ebbed into full time work and I ended up here. Yet I never graduated, and in the end I ended up “wasting” three years and $15,000+ and really had nothing to show for it, but now I think it’s time to actually get some letters after my name.

My options are pretty open, either I reinforce my last ten years of work experience, or I start thinking about the next ten.

My reinforcement comes from a Bachelor of Computer Science at Adelaide, learn some real computer skills instead of being a glorified hacker, or focus a little more on a Bachelor of Engineering (Software Engineering), although I’m not really sure what the difference is between those. Maybe UniSA’s Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems), or their Bachelor of Information Technology (Business Systems)

My progression comes from moving into management and business, I could follow my lovely host into a Bachelor of Management at UniSA, but probably focus more on the commerce or human resources and leave the marketing to her, or double-up with the Engineering degree or Adelaide’s Bachelor of Commerce (Managment).

In the end, I’d love to be in a position to do an MBA somewhere, but in reality, I’ve got till September 30 to make a decision … suggestions?
